For the past few years I’ve been on a mission to find my favorite among the things I really enjoy. It started during the pandemic while I was looking for things to do. I did research online and asked others for their favorites in the various things I was interested in. It was rather fun.
The anticipation of trying things was like waiting for a surprise gift. You didn’t know how good or bad something was going to be. I tried to look for things that were rather easily accessible and not overly expensive. Something you could find locally or simply order.
Here are my favorite coffee, wine, whiskey, tea and food thermometer. If you try any of these, I hope you’ll enjoy them as much as I do.
Coffee: Intelligentsia
As I’ve traveled to various coffee shops over the years there has been one coffee that keeps standing out to me. It’s called Intelligentsia. My favorite is their house blend, which I get daily at my local coffee stop. But there is also have a very good Ethiopia option. Their mix of roasts are solid across the board. A majority of them are also organic.
The notes and tones that Intelligentsia gives off are my favorite. It has a unique balance to me. Crisp and smooth is a hard combination that many coffees fail to capture. Intelligentsia is able to do that. Fresh tasting is a good way to describe it.
Someone’s favorite coffee can really range from one person to another. If I have a choice this is what I’m going for.
Wine: Caymus
Red wine has always been hard for me to like. I do not like dry tasting wine and that is usually the way most reds will come off. Most of the wine I tried I just didn’t care for.
That changed when a friend of mine recommended we try some Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon. It turned out to be a life changer. Now there is only one wine that I will drink and that’s Caymus. It’s a popular award winning wine. It isn’t the cheapest but also isn’t near the most expensive.
It has a fruity taste which finshes very rich and smooth in my opinion. I will warn you once you try it, you’ll have a whole new view on your choice in wines.
Whiskey: Breckenridge
When you read how they use snowmelt from the Rocky Mountains in the making of a whiskey it immediately sounds appealing. Enter the Breckenridge bourbon whiskey, a blend. After trying a large variety of very good whiskies I prefer Breckenridge.
Of all the things I tried this was my hardest to determine a favorite. There are really a lot of good whiskeys. Depending how you drink it can clearly make a difference. My deciding factor was if I were to have one kind on the rocks, what would it be?
From Colorado, this is aged a minimum of three years and the hues of apple, orange, vanilla and oak stick out to me. There is even a bit of brown sugar that seems to shine through at the end, leaving you with a smooth and satisfying finish.
Tea: Rishi
Everyday I try to have a glass of green tea. I’ve tried a wide range of teas. A lot of them taste grassy and dirty to me. Almost like it’s not fresh or crisp.
The one I found that stood head and shoulders above the rest is Rishi’s Jade Cloud Green Tea. They have a large selection of green teas as well as black, white, matcha and many others. If you have a preference they probably have it. Most of their teas are also organic.
If you’re looking for a selection of organic and crisp tasting teas, check out the great mix that Rishi offers.
Food Thermometer: Thermapen
For years my wife has complained that no food thermometer was ever any good. That changed with the discovery of the Thermapen ONE. Nothing has compared to it.
When you open the Thermapen up it instantly turns on and tells you what the room temperature is. That is how fast it tells you the temperatures. As soon as the little tip is put into food it tells you the temperature instantly and accurately in one second. Hence the name Thermapen ONE.
If you cook, bake or need to use a food thermometer in your kitchen, you will be pleasantly surprised with this. Happy Cooking!
If you have any favorites or suggestions among these items, please feel free to share them. I’d love to give a try to any that I haven’t already tried.
