5 Useful Apps I've Discovered
Apps that help make your life easier
With million of apps available to do just about anything, it’s become quite easy to find an app to solve almost any problem or question you have.
One evening I was thinking how nice it would be for an app to take the movies and television series that I liked and then suggest what others I would enjoy. Well to my surprise there is an app that does exactly that.
It took a drive to breakfast with my family to find out that I no longer need to carry a bag of coins in my vehicle to feed parking meters.
Below are the 5 most useful apps that I have recently discovered. I hope they help make your life a little easier as they have mine.
Evernote has become my virtual assistant. It’s a complete lifesaver. All my notes, to do lists etc. are all stored in this app. It syncs across all of my devices. Whether I open the app on my phone or laptop it’s all there. When I make an update or add something it’s automatically updated.
My favorite feature is the search feature. Many times I will put something in a note and forget where it is to pull it up. By using the search function it will search for that word or phrase among all your note entries. Instead of racking my brain and wasting time opening every note, I can pull it up in seconds.
There are numerous other note taking apps, but I like Evernote because it has a simple interface and it’s quick to do what I want to use it for. If I take picture and want to add that to a note, it can be done with ease.
I use Keeper to store all my login and passwords. It’s a longtime favorite of mine and it’s become like my vault.
With every website you visit seemingly needing you to login, it’s impossible to remember all the login and passwords for all your accounts. Your phone or computer may store and auto load your information, but there are some accounts where I don’t want them to autofill. Plus you always have to update your password every so many days now on websites.
It opens with facial recognition and then all my accounts pop up alphabetically, so I scroll to the website and there is my login and password. It backs up as well to provide backup protection if something happens. The most important thing with this passwords app is that they seem to have top notch security to protect your valuable information.
Quartr is what I use to listen to for companies quarterly conference calls. They have the reports, slide decks and documents to view that go with the call. You can listen whenever you want to the entire earnings call. My favorite feature is they allow you to jump right to the Q&A portion of the call. If you want to pick up the speed and listen at a faster speed you can. I listen at 1.5x speed as it makes listening to the call even faster.
If you’re investing in individual stocks and want to really know what is going on with a company, the Quartr app is a must use. I just discovered it, but wish I would have found something like this many years ago.
It took a morning of not having change in my vehicle to fill the parking meter for me to discover the Passport app. My wife, kids and I were on our way to breakfast and I saw a great parking spot right up in front of the restaurant. After I parked we realized that we had zero coins for the parking meter. I was hungry and now ticked off. I rambled about still needing coins to pay for parking in 2022.
On the parking meters was a stick that showed the Passport logo, the parking spot number and to download the app. I downloaded the app and we paid within seconds. After you sign up and enter your card info, you just type in the parking spot and the length of time you want and you’re done. I couldn’t believe it. No more coins. I was ecstatic!
Ever wish you had help finding a movie or television series to watch? We had just finished watching the series of Yellowstone, Ozark and Succession. All were excellent by the way. My favorite was Succession, but my wife’s was Ozark. We were out of things to watch.
As we were thinking about what to watch next, I thought to myself it would be awesome if there was an app that had all the shows and movies in it. Then you could select what you liked and it suggests similar shows that you may enjoy watching.
That evening I discovered JustWatch. It’s exactly what I was looking for. The way I tested to see if it was any good, was to put a few of the shows I’ve liked and then see what it recommended. Well it was recommeding shows that I have also liked but didn’t select on purpose. So its algorithm works very well.
Now I can look at movies or television series suggestions. No more scrolling through Netflix, Amazon Prime or any others looking for something to watch. JustWatch takes what you already like and sends you suggestions off of those. It’s made the picking of shows and movies to watch much easier.
