It’s easy to get distracted in a world full of negativity. The internet and social media can create a storm of toxicity.
On top of that you’re busy, I’m busy, everyone is busy. The hours and minutes continue to just tick by.
Days go by and we forget all the good that’s happening to us.
We experience so many awesome things each day and we don’t even realize it. Stop to appreciate the little joys in life.
The first sip of your morning coffee
Wearing new shoes for the first time
That new car smell
Witnessing your favorite sports team win a championship
Watching the sunset over the water
Roasting smores over a campfire
Sounds of birds chirping in the early morning
Witnessing the joy and excitement on a child's face
Watching a movie outside
Finding money in your pants that you didn't know you lost
When you approach a stop light and it turns green for you
Walking barefoot in the grass
Snow on Christmas
Laughing so hard that you cry
Eating the cookie batter while cookies are being made
Being able to sleep in and not have to set your alarm
An inbox with zero emails
Seeing a friend in person after not seeing them for years
Taking your car through the car wash
A fresh haircut
Getting back into your own bed after a trip
Eating dessert
Naps
Do nothing days
Early morning silence
Seeing your food coming out of the kitchen at a restaurant
Talks with your grandparents
Finding just the right movie when you're scrolling for something to watch
A greasy burger and fries along with a thick milkshake
The ice cream left at the bottom of an ice cream cone
When you're greeted by name at your favorite restaurant
Completing your to do list
Dinners out with your parents
Sinking a hole in one at mini golf
Seeing something that you planted grow
The smell of someone grilling out
Homemade chocolate chip cookies right out of the oven
Eating a perfectly cooked steak
Coming across your favorite toy as a kid
The feeling after you’ve completed a workout
Fresh cleaned bed sheets
Finding something that you thought you had lost
The look and smell of a freshly cut lawn
Doing something from your youth
Massages
Waking up right before your alarm goes off
Popping bubble wrap
When you sleep so well that you wake up unsure what day of the week it is
Watching your kids play and have fun with other kids
The feeling after you finish eating a favorite meal
The Coffee Table ☕
Ted Lamade wrote a really good piece called Take Something Away. With there always more choices, more options, more information and literally just more of everything, it might be the easiest and in our best interest to just remove things. Or as Ted says, “As a result, there is a good chance that the path to happier lives, and yes, better portfolio performance, might start by taking things away.”
One of the more interesting things I've read over the past few weeks was The Curse of the Michelin Star, which appeared in the Economist. When a restaurant is awarded a Michelin star, the expectations drastically change. Then in the coming years it’s more likely that it closes altogether. Just an excellent article.
Ever try doing any of these? I have and it does work. These are such simple helpful tips.
