Everyone Loves a Gift
Few things match the rush of anticipation and excitement of opening a gift. Think back to how you felt the last time you opened a gift not knowing what was inside. Receiving an unexpected gift from someone is one of life’s best surprises.
Now ask yourself. When was the last time you gave an unexpected gift to someone? Why aren’t you giving gifts to people who’ve impacted or helped you in life? Why isn’t your business giving gifts to your best clients?
It may be time for you to practice the art of gifting.
The most helpful book that I’ve read on gifting is Giftology by. John Ruhlin.
My business has been gifting for many years. It took time to figure out what gifts made the biggest impact on our clients. We conducted studies to see what gifts they kept and used.
This is some of what we discovered. Don’t use company advertising on your gifts. Don’t do gifts with strings attached. Make sure it is unexpected. Try to target lasting item gifts that will stick around their home and won’t be a one time use and discarded. It keeps reminding them who it came from each time they see or use it. If you can make it a personal gift for someone, do it! Don’t think twice about it. You will create an even greater impact on them.
Whenever we are considering sending new gifts we always ask, would I keep, use or want this gift?
Here are some gift ideas.
Books. This has been the most gifted item I have given to people over the years. There is no other tool that can provide people what books do. Books are great for gifting as you can find a book on just about anything or anyone. Your selection is really endless.
Gift cards to a specific local place they frequent. A coffee shop or restaurant are great places to start. Maybe someone has a hobby or place they like to shop. This lets someone know that you pay attention to what they like or enjoy doing.
Car washes. An excellent item that is inexpensive and can be sent out easily to a large number of people. It suits our insurance business as we insure our clients vehicles.
Cutting boards or other useful household items. These types of items are something that can be used time after time. Each time it is used it will serve as a reminder it came from you.
Specific item that may mean a lot to them. The more thought you put into someone’s gift, the deeper the impact and impression it will have.
Once you start gifting, the fun for you won’t be in only opening a gift, it will be in the finding, packing and sending a gift to someone else.
